While “Eat the Rainbow” may sound like a catchy nutritional slogan, there is wisdom behind it. Have you ever noticed the vibrant colors of some of the foods we eat?
The rich colors found in fruits and vegetables come from natural compounds called antioxidants. Every day, our bodies face oxidative stress from normal activities, processed foods, and environmental toxins. Much like rust that slowly forms on metal. God created colorful foods filled with nutrients and antioxidants that help protect and support our bodies. They support immune, heart, brain, and eye health, and protection from inflammation and cellular damage.
Colors also symbolize spiritual truths found in Scripture.
Red symbolizes Christ's blood, His covenant, and the redemption purchased on our behalf.
Purple and blue symbolize royalty and priesthood. Through Christ, we are children of the King.
Green speaks of life, restoration, and growth. Just as plants flourish, our spiritual lives grow when rooted in God's Word.
Golden Yellow and Orange symbolize God's glory, His light, His joy, and the incorruptible inheritance that awaits us.
White symbolizes holiness, purity, and sanctification—the work God is doing in us as He sets us apart for His purposes
The next time you're tempted to skip the vegetables, as I sometimes am, remember that the colorful foods on your plate are more than pleasing to the eye and satisfying to the palate. They are the intentional creation of our Creator, meant to nourish, heal, and enhance your life.
As you eat the rainbow, take time to thank our Lord, the Master Artist, who painted it.
